Alstroemeria
by Amanda Laughtland
Surely these lilies are more fancy
than us both, but please
don't mistake me--I love you
in your faded cargo shorts
and the bike shirt with the hole
over your right shoulder, all the same
as when you join me for dinner
in your red crushed velvet blazer
and black pinstriped pants. I bought
new dress clothes to impress you
and be worthy of the lilies,
to come crinkling through your door
with a cellophane-wrapped bouquet.
