Justin Hyde:
Two Poems
progression of a body through knives
just so you know
i've met someone
i really like him
things are getting
serious
we agreed
so i'm letting you know
i'll be introducing him
to ivan
soon,
says your
ex wife
into the phone.
you knew
this day
was coming
thought you
might handle it
with aplomb
and sphinx
wisdom
hell
you've had
three relationships
and a cascade of
one night stands
in the year and a half
you've been divorced.
but you
hang up
the phone
a final door
closed
something substantial
draining
from your
face.
lately
dangle armed
concave of eye
the hands of clocks
keeping time
to unknown songs:
read some books
to trick the mind
from inertia:
lift some weights
to trick the body
from atrophy:
dangle armed
concave of eye
sitting around bars
sipping diet coke
as the heart
withers away
like an
unplucked grape.
